About Pediatric Sleep Dentistry
In our ongoing efforts to make every child dentist visit and every dental procedure a good one, we offer young kids, youth, and teens state-of-the-art pediatric sleep dentistry here at Simcoe Kids Dental clinic.
When done in the dentist’s chair, some procedures may need more than one visit. This can be stressful or even traumatic for some children, which is exactly what we, and you, don’t want.
When this may be the case, or if the procedure involves lots of noisy tools or uncomfortable positioning, we may decide, together, that full sleep dentistry is the best possible solution for your child.
Dr. Noah Turk, along with his specialist team and in-house anesthesiologist, offers pediatric sleep dentistry for our young patients and have perfected their teamwork to ensure the correct levels of sedation is given.
Your child’s vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure, which is completed with maximum efficiency and excellence.
The FACTS About Dentistry While You Sleep
WHAT IS SLEEP DENTISTRY?
Sleep dentistry is, essentially, the same as general anaesthesia, but for dental procedure purposes. It is most commonly used in pediatric dentistry to ensure a comfortable, stress-free experience. Intravenous medications (IV) are administered for full sleep dentistry. We want to ensure that your child remains asleep throughout the dental procedure. Our dedicated, highly specialized pediatric dental staff will continuously monitor your child’s vital signs including blood pressure, the oxygen level in the blood, and your child’s heart rate and temperature. Vital signs are also monitored through post-op…up until full recovery. Keeping your child asleep for more arduous procedures also ensures that they are calm, relaxed, comfortable, and left with no traumatic memories of the experience.
IS PEDIATRIC SLEEP DENTISTRY SAFE?
Yes. When performed by an experienced pediatric dentist with a highly trained medical anesthesiologist as part of the team, full pediatric sedation dentistry is safe. To further put your mind at ease, and ensure that they are candidates for safe child sleep dentistry, we always review your child’s medical history prior to scheduling any sleep dental surgery. This includes reviewing any allergies your child may have and what medication they may be taking.
WHEN IS SLEEP DENTISTRY RECOMMENDED?
We usually recommend pediatric sleep dentistry if your child:
-
- Requires multiple, lengthy, or complicated procedures;
- Suffers from anxiety about visiting a dentist or about dental surgery;
- Has difficulty sitting still or has special needs;
- Is very young;
- Has a strong gag reflex.
